Dozens of local galleries showcase amazing local talent. Asheville's restaurant scene rivals that of major cities. The farm-to-table movement is alive and thriving so eateries serve locally produced meats and veggies. The Western North Carolina Nature Center is a stone's throw from Lamm's End Log Cabin. It is home to more than 60 species of local wildlife including black bears, red wolves, otters, and many other animals that inhabit southern Appalachia. Lamm's End guests say visiting the Center feels more like a walk through the woods rather than a sterile zoo. The Center is immaculately maintained and takes about 2 hours to see it all. WNC is enjoyed by both children and adults and is a great way to start a day in Asheville. The Western North Carolina Nature Center is a 42-acre facility dedicated to educating the public about the area's varied animal life and natural habitats. Indoor exhibits include resident reptiles and amphibians; small mammals; and the World Underground exhibit, which explores what lies beneath.
Asheville is considered America's beer capital. There are nearly 30 craft breweries just within the city limits and another 60 outside of Asheville. The Morris Island Lighthouse is a spectacular must-see on Folly Beach. And don't forget to grab your camera. Built in 1876, it is the second oldest lighthouse in South Carolina. And, at 158 feet it’s one of the tallest you’ll find in South Carolina. Having been retired and restored only a few years back, it is now a historic landmark and great photography location.
The Pier on Folly Beach is iconic. In the 1940s, the Pier hosted many big bands including Glenn Miller and Maurice Williams. It's just 5 blocks from Lamm's End Cottage which just happened to be constructed in the 40s. Imagine if the walls could talk! Stretching a half-mile into the ocean, the pier is not only popular with anglers. Birdwatchers are captivated by migrating flocks of birds and if for those who enjoy sunrises and sunsets, this is a must-see on Folly Beach.
